SUBMISSION SmartBase 2.0b for OPENSTEP 4.2 Mach ftp.smartsoft.de/SmartBase/SmartBase.2.0b.I.b.tar.gz SmartBase has been developed to simplify the development and maintenance of database applications based on OPENSTEP/MacOS X Server, Apples new next generation operating system. This goal is achieved by centralizing the business logic for more flexibility, by providing support for remote object instanciation in order to allow the easy design of client/server architectures and by introducing an advanced object paradigm allowing developers to create models at a very high abstraction level. · Centralized business logic · Remote object support · Advanced object paradigm SmartBase does not provide data storage mechanisms on its own but makes use of an ordinary relational database management system for this purpose. You can think of SmartBase as an objective extension for your database. Because SmartBase is based on Apples Enterprise Objects Framework it principly can be used with any RDBMS, that's supported by EOF or comes with an EOF-Adapter. Thus it also provides a database independent layer for application development. SmartBase is currently available for OPENSTEP 4.2 Mach and for MacOS X Server. Note, that EOF 2.1 or higher is required on both systems. Moreover you need a supported relational database management system. The current release supports OpenBase (www.openbase.com) and FrontBase (www.frontline-software.dk). RELEASE NOTES Changes for version 2.0b Release ---------------------------------------------- - Mutli database support has been added Changes for version 1.7 Release ---------------------------------------------- - row level privileges support for FrontBase has been added - Some minor bugs have been fixed INSTALLATION Simply open the archive and install all five packages on your workstation.
